Road Test

Shock Absorber and Strut Replacement

Shock absorbers control spring movement and help keep the tyres in contact with the road. When they become weak, the vehicle may bounce, wallow, lean excessively or feel unsettled during braking and cornering.

A shock absorber does not have to be pouring oil out before it becomes ineffective. Internal wear can reduce damping even when there is only minor external leakage.

On a loaded commercial vehicle, worn shocks can also contribute to uneven tyre wear and poor stability. We normally inspect the mounting bushes, springs and surrounding suspension components at the same time.

Control Arm Bushes and Ball Joints

Control arms locate the wheel and allow the suspension to move through its designed range. Rubber bushes isolate vibration, while ball joints allow controlled movement as the vehicle steers and travels over bumps.

When these components wear, the wheel can move away from its intended position. This may cause knocking, unstable steering, braking movement and rapid tyre wear.
